Dear Poetry Aficionados, IBPC: Poetry & Poets in Rags This week is a double headliner week. The world lost Mahmoud Darwish. We begin News at Eleven with The Guardian's coverage of his death. And because he begins the alphabetical order, we begin the Poetic Obituaries section with several articles from around the world on him as well. There is so much to this man, and people see him from so many perspectives, that you should find these selected links both informative, insightful, and various, excellent reading. Our other headliner(s) surround the Olympic games. Last week, we read about Tibetan poet Tenzin Tsundue. This week he is ill from protest. A few months ago, we read about Shi Tao's poem 'June' making it around the world wide web for the Olympics. This week we have this poetry event banned in China. The Great Wall is now web based. Some are concerned that after the Olympics games, the thousands detained just for this occasion will meet with dire consequences. What will China do? We have a message from the Dalai Lama for the occasion as well, reiterating his support of the Olympic games, how the Chinese people will benefit from them. Leaning on his leadership, I am not boycotting, but following the wrestling matches live online here: NBC Olympics: Wrestling. They have live feeds from each mat.
