Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags

We begin linking again to an article on Taslima Nasrin, the Bangladeshi poet and women's rights activist, who has fled for her life. She has been interviewed in hiding. Our third story is one about poet Kyaw Thu Moe Myint fleeing imprisonment, and the second is one from writer Zarah Ghahramani who was tortured while in prison. Somehow, we find ourselves in a season of worldwide sanctioned violence against poets. How can we stop this?

Ted Hughes' letters have been published, and some remarkable articles have been coming out these past few weeks on them. This week in News at Eleven, we have two more.

It is a week for our Great Regulars as well. Frank Wilson and E. Ethelbert Miller have new poems available for reading. Karl Kirchwey has written on Robert Pinsky's new book. Great Regulars doing at least double duty, with two or more articles, are Sarah Crown (including another "From the blogs"), Terry Eagleton, John Freeman, Linda Sue Grimes, Garrison Keillor, The New Yorker, and Portsmouth Herald News. And we get to meet Bob Hoover in a video interview.

As with each week, take a scroll through the Poetic Obituaries. Some important world poets have passed away.

Thanks for being here.

Yours,
Rus
