Dearest khadija -- Here are two incredibly valuable resources for you (one free, one not): Duotrope's Digest (An online database of over 1925 current markets for short fiction, poetry, and novels/collections) Poet's Market: 2008 (The new edition should be available at bookstores any day now, so I'd wait for it rather than purchasing the 2007 edition -- you can find it in the WPF BookShop) You will find hundreds of markets in both those resources, whether you're looking to submit for print or internet journals. Most hardcopy and all on-line zines have websites. Check them out. See what kind of poetry they like before submitting. For example, American Groundhog Review requires that every poem submitted have some reference to a shadow. Fred | ||

exactly G- and I have had luck with submitting individual poems to sites I think because I have read what they publish and make sure my stuff fits in. I know a man who is a publisher and I really admire the books he has published, I will approach him with the manuscript but I wonder if the point is just to have a hard copy of one's work or to try to go with a publisher that may get you more exposure? I guess the same question comes up for me when someone mentions self publishing, ~k | ||

Another cool resource is New Pages. They review various publications and tell you who has contests coming up, etc. I want either less corruption, or more chance to participate in it. ~Ashleigh Brilliant | ||
