I played around with it until I figured out what I did to get rid of the problem when it was annoying me.

So to get rid of the caps at the beginning of each line:

Go to Word
go to Tools
then click on Autocorrect
find "capitalize first letter of sentences"
click on the check mark to get rid of it
save the change
now you should have no more caps
at the beginning of each line
when typing poetry

Good luck!

Another way is to use a laser beam to remove the heads from the letters, changing them from capitals to lower case.

This exact method was recently used in Iraq, hence, the term "decapital punishment."

Kathy- I just had to write those instructions up for my mom who hates, I should say HATES, using the new fangled Microsoft word. She longs for the simple days when she used Correl Word and files were kept in the black universe of MS Dos! I can't convince her, after learning all that stuff, how easy it is to save her work in any folder she chooses or creates, and all at the touch of her mouse. And I've spent hours on the phone and in person trying to show her this. ARGHHH!

I'm using MS Word 12 -whatever that means. No autocorrect in my tools menu (unless it's called something else that I'm not aware of). My biggest problem is when I copy and paste from an e-mail into word (to save something) or vice versa, and the darn thing copies itself with double spacing. I usually end up typing it again but that is rather redundant and time consuming. There has got to be an easier way, No? Can you help me? LOL. And no, I am not beyond help. Thanks.

Kathy, thanks for that info. I have been going back and deleting the caps and subbing lower case where it was needed. I knew there must be an easier way to do it.

Glad to be of help.

A-Bear: I don't know of MS Word 12. Is that an old version? You might just have to click around until you find what you're looking for.

I have Word 2000

For line spacing:

Go to format
click paragraph
click indents and spacing
under spacing find line spacing
click on the drop down arrow
pick single
save changes

This may not work for everything you copy and paste from the net because some web pages are preset no matter your settings.

K -WordPerfect 12. My problem might be related more to Outlook Express. Not sure. I did find spacing in the format menu but it appeared to be set correctly (1.0). Ah, what would life be without its little problems? I'm not giving up. Eventually I'll get it right. The trick is to keep trying, no?

Dear Bear -- the answer to your problem may be this.

Highlight the offending text. Choose the Format Menu. Click on "Styles and Formatting." A menu will open up on the right. Under the section called "Pick formatting to apply," choose "Normal." The text should then revert to single-spacing.

Hope this works!

Love,

M -are you using WP12? I've searched tools, menu, etc., and didn't see anything with the section you refer to. Nothing normal anyway. I'll keep looking though but what's unusual with my not being able to find "normal" eh? LOL

I'll spend this evening researching the HELP menu and hopefully I will learn something that will do the trick. The only thing I haven't tried is reading the instructions. Wish me luck -I'll let you know. Thanks.

Bear- You can fix your problem once you paste it in outlook express. Highlight the text you want to change and change it to plain text using the format bar, remove the extra line breaks, and then you can go back to HTML if you want (for adding pictures etc).

Using the help menu can be very frustrating. I suggest creating a practice document and just play with it. You can change your settings to the way you want them and then use this document as your default by always opening it first and then save it by selecting "save as" and writing a new file name for it.

Hope I've been of help and not confused you more!
