Does the prose part of a haibun have to be written in paragraph form? After writing cinqs and free verse for so long, paragraph form appears oddly written to me. Do I need to break out of my box and accept paragraphs or can the prose be broken into stanzas?

I thnk you can writye it as you like, Bren. I think though that paragraph form would be preferred by afficianados.
The haibun is like a journal entry describing a journey, of whatever sort, it could be a walk down the garden, It normally terminates with a haiku but can be interspersed with haiku, one is not the limit.
The prose form can be ungrammatical, terse and sentences verbless. The haiku should not be thought of as a summation of the prose but actually carry the piece forward. Google 'haibun' and get wiser words than this. They are gaining in popularity. Arthur

Bren, I've seen std poetry used very effectively in place of the prose with the end both haiku and tanka. In fact, I am going to review a book from Japan that is free verse with tanka. There does not seem to be a name for it, though I have called in Rhonbun after a poet from another site.

Best of luck.

Gary and Arthur,
Thank you, I'll google some and see if I can find more about it. Also you both mention Haiku and Tanka but I like adding cinquains is that okay to do as well? I love the very idea of doing Haibuns and I'm so glad someone invented the form.
I posted one in the workshop if either of you fellows have time to take a look I'd be owing you both a berry pie or in Gary's case a berry flavored Nehi!

Why not a c?

It might be more difficult given its form, but any mix is possible for someone with your talent.

Thank you Gary for saying that! I did get lucky with one and I'll tell you about that when it's out I'd hate to officially jinx myself after all that pinchin I've been doing to see if it's actually true.
