Dear Poetry Fans,

Poetry & Poets in Rags

We begin with our friend Sarah Crown, not only writing an excellent piece, but providing the perfect links for further reading at article's end. Our back page has an excerpt from the new book by Helen Vendler, not to be missed. In between, we find that poetry "filters into the world." It can be "devoted to sustaining a way of life" or a calling to record history or "a communication between friends." It can also can be "worthless arse-dribble." So say several of our articles this week. And if you pay attention, you will notice that two of our articles were written by the same person. Also, don't miss our "Great Regulars" section, with, among others, poetry comment by Robert Pinsky and Ted Kooser. As with each issue now, we finish with obituaries, four this week from opposite ends of the world.

Enjoy the reads, and thanks for clicking in.

Yours,
Rus
