IBPC Newswire: Poetry & Poets in Rags of October 4th Dear Poetry Fans, Poetry & Poets in Rags The number of articles, excellent articles, on poetry and poets seems to be climbing weekly. It could be because school's back in. This doesn't explain it all, though, because our articles come for different reasons from different segments in different parts of the globe. It may then be that the world is becoming sensitive to what poetry might be able to mean for living on the planet today. Whatever the reasons, the world is keeping track of poetry more and more. We headline with another imprisoned poet in China. We move to India for two articles, with such extraordinary poetic content, they could easily headline in another week. We have articles on poets, whole poems, the state of quarterlies, the rubble of Katrina, and more, until we reach our back page with another article that should be headlining as well, with its extraordinary find. That one was news all over the world, such that a dedicated Google search led me to choose a relatively brief article that ended with a link to the very source's web site. This over a more in-depth article on the same subject sent to me by Poets.org's IBPC laureate Christine Klocek-Lim. It wasn't the most written about story of this week, though. That one is in the obituaries. The last one, our longest item. But, I skipped over our eight "Great Regulars" for this week. Any poetry lover could go just to this section and be fulfilled, if it's excellent poetry, and writing on poets and poetry that is desired. For the first time, last week, I told you to take your time. I shouldn't have. The second story of our first eleven was taken off the web before the week was out. I found this out thanks another of Poets.org's IBPC laureates, JB Mulligan. Hurry! Hurry! Click 'em while there hot!
