From Harbrace College Handbook: Twelfth Edition: "A gerund is a verbal (nonfinite verb) that ends in -ing and functions as a noun. Gerunds may take objects, complements, or modifiers. Riding bikes is good exercise. The gerund phrase -- riding and its object, bikes -- serves as the subject of the sentence." |
