Dear Poetry Fans, Poetry & Poets in Rags This past week, many of us were looking around the forums and elsewhere for poets from the Gulf Coast, to see if others of us were missing. One poet is Dave Brinks, our current IBPC judge from New Orleans. From message 856 in the "I'm OK Forum" at NOLA.com, he apparently escaped the flood. But, he has not been seen online to answer his e-mails, and I'm wondering if he is in any position or mindset to judge for us this month. Although unlikely, on the other hand, maybe so. Our directors are on top of the situation to do the right thing no matter what we hear or don't hear. Now that the waters are receding, and the fatalities will surely be in the too-many thousands, I'm hoping for only good news from around our community. We are blessed with each other. Let's all hold hands, find our buddies, and be sure everyone is OK. This week's Poetry & Poets in Rags has changes. We still have eleven regular articles. Our section on deaths in the poetry world, including our own Barbara Ostrander this week, is now called "Poetic Obituaries," a name that came to mind as I reread her husband Kent's letter. And we have a brand new section called "Great Regulars." Here you'll find all the "series" like David Biespiel's monthly article from The Oregonian, and Ted Kooser's weekly article from American Life in Poetry. The list is growing, and this week, with five altogether and potentially more, that would have left too few others for the weekly eleven. Soon, these "series" would have overtaken Poetry & Poets in Rags, with high quality stuff for sure. They are great, often our headliners, just what we want to support with P&P in Rags.
